Episode 22: Scrapping our Travels

This week we're discussing scrapbooking our travels. We'll talk big vacations and short day trips, whether to include travel in our main albums or keep it separate, how to organize a travel album, taking the "big camera" and much more.

Here are three ways to listen...

1) ScrapGals on Podomatic
2) ScrapGals on iTunes
3) Right here on this player...

We hope you'll leave us any comments you have and ideas for more podcasts!

Thanks for listening!

  1. love love love you guys so much. you are the best part of my morning. i always listen to this podcast on my way to and from work. just had to comment on the camera strap. i have a blackrapid rs-7 and i just got back from vacation. this is a cross body style. etsy does have some cute longer cross body syles but i like the way this particular strap holds the camera so the lens points down. keep up the awesome job girls. and one more vote for keep it at an hour or longer.
    love you guys, Amanda

    1. Thank you Amanda!! I will definitely look into that for my Disney trip. Wow. Never heard of a cross-body DSLR strap! Thanks for listening! Your comment made our day!

    2. Omg, I wish I'd known about this before I left for Europe! Can you link me to the site where you bought it? I'd really appreciate it. :)

wow i haven't been to the website in years and they have even more now. i bought mine at a local camera store in SLC but i noticed that amazon has them as well. mine even has a small zipper pocket for an extra battery and sd card.
Tracie- i am normally very shy but i was tired of not being in photos with my family so this trip i made it a point to ask people. i noticed that if you find another family that is the easiest. i also tried to ask people with a similar setup. so if they had a Dslr than i handed them mine or if they had an iphone than that is what i gave them. i was sooo thrilled at the end of this trip to have four photos of us as a family instead of 30 photos of me and my husband or me and the kids and my husband and the kids.

  2. Hi, I adore you two, your personalities compliment each other so well :D
I was coming here to talk about wearing my DSLR cross body, but now I may get the one Amanda mentioned above because I don't like having the lens stick out. Unless I'm taking photos I always wear my camera cross body, because I have lots of little ones and I can't have it swinging from my neck. Though I have knocked a couple of my kid in the head with it being cross body :O On my hip like that it lands right at their head level :P But that was only a rare occurrence ;)
I like to make little folders before I take a big trip, I add a couple of photo pockets and/or notebook paper and I have a place to capture notes and memorabilia. It keeps it all safe during the trip and then at home it can even serve as a mini album of sorts if I never get around to scrapbooking everything. I'm actually getting a tutorial together about how to make them :D

    2. I actually rammed people in 6 or 7 countries with my camera lens this last trip - lol. Bad for my camera and bad for diplomatic relations to, right? Haha!

  3. Hey, Scrap Gals! I really enjoyed this week's podcast, as usual! I also struggle with knowing what to do with travel memorabilia once I'm ready to scrapbook. I think I'm going to pull my old baseball card page protectors out of the archives and put them to work, though. I remember Ali Edwards using those a lot for projects like Week in the Life, and I thought it was so cute and so genius, I bought them. And then never touched them. LOL

Tracie - for getting into the photos with your family at Disney World - just hand the camera over to any Cast Member. They are happy to help out, especially wait staff. But even character wranglers, and, believe it or not, the PhotoPass photogs, will take a quick pic for you if you just ask.

Tiffany - I had the opportunity many years ago when I was in high school to go on one of those Europe tours like you describe. But I was silly and didn't want to leave my boyfriend for that long, so backed out of it. Now my best friend and I would love to do a trip like that together - is there a particular company or tour you could recommend? Thanks in advance!

Keep cranking out the podcasts - love listening to you two!

    2. Lisa, I have only used EF (Education First) as the company to organize things when I travel with students. Including my own trip with them when I was a sophomore in high school, I've travelled with them 5 times now. I know they have an adult section of their company called Go Ahead, I think. Good luck checking things out - be sure to let me know if I can be of any help. :)

    3. I'm a digi scrapper who has MOUNTAINS of memorabilia that I just know I'll never scan in to scrap.

So what I do is put the memorabilia in Project Life style page protectors, alongside my printed digital pages in my albums

This set shows the memorabilia pages from our trip around the eastern states of Australia https://www.flickr.com/photos/26825677@N04/sets/72157642835526645/

This one includes all our travel around Australia plus some othe random memorabilia pages (like our wedding, my daughter's hospital stay etc)

Maybe this idea could work if you can't bear to toss the memorabilia but can't work out how to include it on a page?

  5. regarding kids deleting pics. remember printing pics does not guarantee they will be around tomorrow. a paid backup with another form kept at a second location is safest.
