Episode 23: Where Do We Go From Here?

This week we’re talking about how the world of scrapbooking is changing. We’ll discuss the closing of twopeasinabucket.com and how it affects us and also how Project Life has affected the industry. Has it hurt or helped? Is it as simple as it’s portrayed to be? We’ll chime in with our opinion on this and more! (Don’t miss the end of this show…it’s a riot when Tiffany flubs our slogan.)

Here are three ways to listen...
1) ScrapGals on Podomatic
2) ScrapGals on iTunes
3) Right here on this player...

Here are links to all the scrapbooking forums we talked about in this episode:
2 Peas Refugees
Scrapbook.com
A Cherry on Top
Studio Calico

We hope you'll leave us any comments you have and ideas for more podcasts!
Thanks for listening!

  1. This was such a good podcast ladies. I'm a pretty new listener and have really enjoyed them. I sometimes find myself laughing out loud:) Even though I was never a big commenter on the 2peas mb, I was there for 10 years and would visit at least once every couple of days. I just signed up on the 2peasrefugee site and have made it my goal to be a bit more active.
I do believe Project Life has made a big impact on the industry, but I don't know if it's been for better or worse. One thing I do know, like you said Tracie...it is not an EASIER alternative to traditional layout based scrapbooking. It is just an alternative. I love doing a small version of it, but it still takes me a while and I hardly use embellishments.

    1. You're right - it's NOT easy but it IS fun if you can figure out how to keep it simple (in my opinion). :) Thanks for listening!! If you wanna work your way through the episodes, I recommend starting with the most recent and going back. :)

  2. I really enjoyed this podcast, as usual! I appreciate you being on top of the industry and taking the time to talk about 2Peas. I was there for 12 years mostly as a lurker. I too feel guilty for not purchasing more from them. I have joined 2peasrefugees and the paperclipping forum. I hope to be more vocal.
I think Project Life has made a sizable impact on the industry. But I still run into scrapbookers who haven't heard of it yet. I really like the concept and I do like have the option for all of those random, everyday photos. I totally failed at the project of taking a photo everyday or doing project life regularly. I like mixing the pocket pages and regular layouts.
Thanks again for a great conversation!

  3. I went to the 2peas refugee site. So glad you told us about it. I bookmarked it so I can go back. I did think there was a lot of negativity there but I'm sure that will change.

    1. I feel that the negativity stays mostly on the NSBR board. I haven't seen anything negative so far on the new board but it's up to everyone who is positive to be the posters and keep it upbeat! :) Thanks for listening!

  4. I forgot to mention - I WILL come to a weekend crop and I am willing to help in any way!

  5. i didn't use the 2peas message boards or buy product. i did purchase & enjoy their classes. i'm sad about their videos. it's a true loss. they made such an impact to our hobby. yes, i've seen a lot of trends cycle since i started scrapping in 1997. what HAS changed is MY perspective. that's why i can sometimes look at my old products or magazine & see them in a different way.i started scrapping as a creative outlet. it led me to art.i agree that project life, (& smash books), have opened the scrapbooking door for other people. i haven't ever done project life, nor have i ever wanted to. i imagine i'd feel like tiffany. plus i write in a journal. tracie, i'm glad project life has helped you include yourself & your husband in your albums. as for crops, that's where i met my friends 4 yrs ago. they would host crops at each other's homes. they recently had a crop at joann's. i didn't go due to the commute. scrapgals, please don't ever feel like you have to censor your thoughts or opinions.because you're afraid to offend someone. what i like about your podcast, is your honesty..so.until next time ladies. go & be scrappy! ;)

  6. Thank you Teddi!!! Actually I did edit out a few "too honest" opinions about Two Peas and some things that have happened there because as I told my husband last night, people aren't going to change just because you point out their behavior and it's always wise to try not to offend anyone, if possible. I do stick my foot in my mouth sometimes but I'm certainly trying to see things from all sides. Thanks for listening!!

  7. Thanks for the great pod cast, Tiffany & Tracie! I have logged on to twopeas almost every day for the last 10 years, I will miss them. I have gone to 2peasrefugees, and logging in everyday, to get my scrappy fix.
I heard scrapbook.com has set up an easy way to transfer your LO's at twopeas to their site, I am going to try that. There is a link on their blog.
I think your pod casts are the perfect length. I can always hit the pause button of I "have to pea". That phrase will forever have a double meaning in my life :-)

  8. one of the reasons i so enjoy your podcasts is the authenticity of your discussions. you are perfectly within your right to share your opinions, and we can agree or not. i think you make it perfectly clear that these are just your opinions. if every sentence has to be neutral, nothing is said.

  9. I was going to mention the tool that scrapbook.com has set up as well! They have a tool that you can use to transfer all your gallery with one click! Easy peasy! How nice of them to do that!

Thanks for a great podcast once again! (a little heavy on the exclamation marks today, sorry) I think sometimes people confuse "project life" with "pocket pages".....I love using pocket pages but have failed with project life and I think that as you were discussing, it has not really continued as it was originally designed. Most of the pages I've seen are embellished and designed and a lot have computer journalling etc....not really what Becky Higgins first intended with the "just slip in your photos and write out some journalling, no fuss, no muss scrapbooking".....

I love your discussions and am never offended....I often find myself joining in with things and wish I was there with the two of you chatting away! Don't have a southern accent, though so I guess that disqualifies me :)

    1. LOL - We'll make you an honorary Southerner. :) Thank you!! We call Project Life by the brand name just like instead of soda, down here we call it all "coke!"

  10. I'm so glad to hear that y'all found our discussion relevant and authentic! Ultimately, we want you to be inspired to scrapbook more, so it's important to us that we discuss topics that you find interesting. Please feel free to comment and to request topics; we LOVE hearing from you. :)

  11. I heard about your podcasts on the new forum at Paperclipping Roundtable. Thanks for your hard work!

  12. I fell behind on my podcasts and finally had a chance to listen to this one. I was really surprised you read my comment from 2peas about project life. I was the one who didn't like taking pictures of mundane things. :)

Anyways, a couple of friends are listeners & fans also and we're interested in the crop you mentioned. We would need more details before committing but there are 5 or 6 of us considering it. We're looking forward to more info in the future.

  13. I just discovered you guys from the new Paperclipping forum too, and I'm enjoying working my way through your old episodes! I thought I'd pop in and mention that the Paperclipping folks (Izzy and Noell) started a new forum and gallery to fill the 2peas void, so you might want to pop by there.

And, you might want to check out the Capturing Magic podcast before your Disney vacation. And download their Disney World app that lets you mark your wish list of photo opportunities, and will even alert you when you get close to remind you to take the picture. They have lots of great information on their podcast and blog about capturing and recording your Disney memories.

Thanks for the fun podcast ladies!

  14. Hello ladies.... Can I just tell you how excited I got when I heard you mention crop? I mean seriously, I almost pee'd my pants with excitement. As for location - the place you mentioned in Atlanta sounds fabulous, but I'd also be open to somewhere in the mountains of Tenn as well. I'm in Charlotte, so both are relatively easy for me to get there. I love listening to you, it's like I'm sitting around the kitchen table with old friends. Keep up the great work, and just so you know, it makes me sad when the podcast isn't at least an hour long. Now, if we could get two a week, that would be perfection.

    1. haha! Never will there be two a week, we struggle to do one but so far we've made it happen! I am really leaning toward Atlanta but Tiffany thinks we should keep it local. I'm so glad you're on board for the crop! More details TBA soon!

  15. I'm just now listening to this episode, and I am so happy to hear others say what I've been thinking for so long about Project Life! I am a project life scrapbooker, and it's really working well for me now, but for a long time I came upon all the hurdles you all discussed, and I couldn't find anyone else on the internet agreeing with my experience!! I was thinking I was the defective one, not the system. :)

  16. I have listened to this podcast several times. Enjoy it every time. I listen as I scrap and I love the length of the cast.
