Episode 134: The Newbie Conundrum

This week, we have a discussion with listeners Tiffany Brand and Adrienne Hogan in response to a thread posted in our community in follow up to last week's show about "The New Rules of Scrapbooking." We discuss a wide variety of topics including how much more difficult it is now for new people to learn about scrapbooking vs. the days of home parties, scrapbook stores, multiple magazines and more people participating in the craft. We also discuss bridging the gap between scrapbookers who participate in online communities vs. those who do not. We hope you enjoy this thought provoking episode!

This month we are raising funds to pay our podcasting fees for the next 12 months. If you enjoy The Scrap Gals Podcast, we ask that you consider giving a donation of $5 or more.

If you already have a PayPal account, you can send a gift to tracieclaiborne@gmail.com or if you need to use a credit card, click in the right sidebar to help us raise our podcast fees by October 1st. For each donation of $5, we will send a link to an exclusive video podcast by The Scrap Gals (in late October).

Thanks so much to all of you who have already donated!

Join us in our online community to talk about all things scrappy.

  1. Hi Tiffany and Tracie, I live in Utah and was so excited to hear that you are coming to Provo in April. I will definitely plan to be there! I just got an email from LetsCreateExpo.com and they are having an expo here in Sandy, Ut on April 28,29. Is that the same weekend you are coming? It's a pretty big event, it may limit your attendees. Just wanted you to know. Love your show!!

  2. Hi Tiffany and Tracie, thanks again for a great podcast. I have been on vacation the last two weeks so I just listened to your last two show on the plane, made flying not so long.
I hope you think about coming to Boston on one of your work shops. Fall is the best time, I think.
Have fun on your cruise Tracie. Congratulations on your daughter's wedding Tiffany. All the best C.Robin

  4. I love this post because I started with CM and think we have gotten away from the basics. Many I meet are overwhelmed by the "artistic" pages. I want to revisit the spreading of basic info. My children prefer to make digital books to get it done. But also the preservation of media that becomes obsolete. Paper does survive. Too many photos and not enough time back to basics is very necessary.

  5. I agree we need to get back to basics. Not scare off the newbies with "artistic overwhelmness".
