Episode 64: Inspiration Chain

This week we're talking with the brilliant and inspiring Amy Sorensen, about how to use an "Inspiration Chain" to get out of a scrapbook slump!

Here are three ways to listen:
1) Scrap Gals on Podomatic
2) Scrap Gals on iTunes
3) Right here on this player...

Here's how to use an Inspiration Chain:
  1. Start with something that inspires you (product, color, story, design, etc.).
  2. Make a layout.
  3. As you're making the layout, watch for a spark of inspiration for the next layout.
  4. Keep going as long as you can.

Here's how to use "One-Topic Scrapbooking:"
  1. Pick a season, holiday or theme.
  2. Pull multiple years or sets of photos for the theme.
  3. Choose papers and embellishments that fit the theme and colors, try to limit product.
  4. Create multiple layouts around that theme - 5 to 10.

Other ideas for getting out of a slump:
  1. Purge! Give to a great cause so you'll feel good about it.
  2. Go shopping for new supplies! Go home and use that product right away!
  3. Look at a scrapbook you've made. Immerse yourself in and remember why you do this.
  4. Scrapbook anyway, even if you don't feel like it.
  5. Use your favorite things. Find something you truly love and use it!
  6. Tell a story you always tell aloud but have never documented.
  7. Shake up your process - start at a different place than you normally would.
  8. Scrap the last photo that you took. Print it. Scrap it and see where it goes.
  9. Give yourself permission that you don't have to love what you finish. Just doing something will get you over the hurdle and something is better than nothing.
  10. Just take a break. Do something else to fill up the tank of your creative well.
  11. Go do something that you will be excited about taking pictures and scrapbooking them.
  12. Scraplift or use a sketch! Why not? The Scrap Gals give you permission.
